Weather today is to be much the same as it has been the last few days. Overcast, an occasional shower, some sun, and the kind of day it would be good to sit in church and listen to a good sermon.
Best laid plans often go astray, as did with both of my show entries.
The quilt is missing 4 large corner pieces.. I admit I gave up on some corners that frame the center block. I will win that battle yet, and not have to hand applique more flowers, etc..
The wall hanging, I accidentally cut two v shapes into it, when trimming the trapunto I am using. Scratch that also.
I should be around in two years to enter something then.
Such a disappointment since I wasn't able to enter 2 years ago, due to working on a "friends" quilt for her to enter in that show. (Maybe that is why she is no longer treats me as a friend.. because her quilt didn't win?).
Oh well, what was meant to be is what is meant to be, and crying about it won't do anyone a bit of good.. may make one feel better.. so is that one bit of good?
Just getting daylight.. I was up by 5:30 again this morning. I really don't like getting up that early, though it's not as bad as I use to think it was.
I just found out the other day that Haven House, our safe house, has closed.. mismanagement as well as emberzzlement. So nice to have the head person taking from the so very needy folks for her own enjoyment. It is so hard to understand, and I don't understand. Am thankful I don't understand for fear I too would be the same as that person.
They need each person that is a chairman or a head person, that can be checked on by anyone.
They need a A head person, a bookkeeper/treasurer, a fundraiser chairman, an in-take chairman to keep track of what is given to the Haven House in material items and from fund raising, and give out receipts to donors of tangible items. A department chairman would be needed to give out things that are needed by the folks who need the help, and make notes of the items given to give to the donation chairman. Both the chairman and the department chairman would work together to sensibly organize what is taken in.. Like ladies extra small, or mens medium. And all departments be open to anyone who wants or needs to check on something, or are just a curious citizen, be able to go in and check to make sure all is well.
An annual audit is badly needed.. and the stock room available to all workers.
In checking on the bookkeeper and/or the in-take chairman.they would not be able to change any entries, and if they think something is wrong, they would be able to ask the bookkeeper or chairman for verification. If that doesn't help, then a meeting of all 4 positions to get it squared away is needed, and an audit called for.
I'm really disheartened over this.. It's so badly needed and hasn't even been paying costs, including not making mortgage payments. I Think Lee County (and I may be wrong) stepped in and paid the mortgague up to date, and they needed $34,000.00 by Oct. 11.. and it wasn't made.
Don't know what is going to happen now. If they reopen, then I think they need to do several things differently, such as:
1. Maybe more volunteers to teach classes of what is offered, instead of all paid positions.
2. Maybe have several fund raisers going at once.
